At PROPER SNACKS, we're here to improve snacking. Home to PROPER and Eat Real, we create category-defining brands that challenge convention and bring seriously tasty snacks to more people, more often. We're builders, thinkers, creators and makers. We move fast, back ourselves and aren't afraid to do things differently. Right now we're looking for a Multi-Skilled Shift Engineer to help us write the next chapter.
Why this role matters
Great snacks rely on equipment that works safely, efficiently and reliably. As our Multi-Skilled Shift Engineer, you'll provide hands-on engineering support across our Nuneaton manufacturing site, keeping production moving and helping minimise downtime.
From responding to breakdowns and delivering planned preventative maintenance to finding the root cause of recurring faults, you'll help improve equipment reliability and production efficiency. Working closely with production teams and engineering colleagues, you'll bring practical solutions while maintaining high standards of safety, food quality and operational performance.
What you'll be doing
Respond promptly to breakdowns, diagnose mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic faults within your competence, and restore equipment safely while keeping production teams updated.
Complete planned preventative maintenance, inspections, servicing, adjustments and component replacements to agreed schedules and engineering standards.
Use electrical, mechanical and PLC fault-finding skills to identify root causes, eliminate repeat breakdowns and recommend improvements to reliability, maintainability and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
Follow site safety procedures, risk assessments, isolation and permit-to-work requirements; reinstate guarding and safety devices, maintain safe housekeeping, report hazards and follow food safety, hygiene and quality procedures.
Partner with production operators, supervisors and engineering colleagues to prioritise work by safety and production impact, support start-ups and changeovers, and deliver clear shift handovers.
Support equipment installations, modifications and commissioning, and help improve maintenance procedures and standards to reduce downtime, costs and equipment failures.
Record maintenance, breakdowns, labour hours, parts used and follow-up actions accurately in the CMMS, complete relevant compliance records and flag spare parts requirements.
What great looks like
Success in this role means:
Safe, effective and timely maintenance that keeps equipment available and reliable.
Planned preventative maintenance completed to agreed schedules, with accurate maintenance and compliance records.
Effective breakdown response, measured through mean time to repair (MTTR), mean time between failures (MTBF), engineering-related downtime and repeat breakdown frequency.
Clear handovers and strong working relationships across production, engineering, stores and external contractors.
Practical improvements that support equipment reliability and OEE, in line with agreed site and engineering objectives.
About you
We're much more interested in potential and impact than a perfect CV.
You'll probably bring a mix of the following:
We'd love to see
A recognised engineering qualification, apprenticeship or equivalent relevant experience.
A multi-skilled engineering background with electrical and mechanical exposure in a manufacturing or industrial maintenance environment.
Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills, including the ability to connect to and diagnose PLC systems.
An understanding of preventative maintenance, safe working practices and equipment isolation.
The ability to work independently, prioritise under pressure and bring practical solutions, while recognising when support is needed.
Clear communication and shift handover skills, a positive attitude and a willingness to learn.
Bonus points if
You've worked in food manufacturing or another highly regulated production environment.
You've contributed to root cause analysis, continuous improvement or OEE improvements.
Apply now and help shape the future of snacking.
